Stephin Merritt on Good Day Atlanta

So were there like...three people in the studio audience? Or maybe that was the sound of the proverbial one hand clapping? I was wondering the whole time whether or not there was an audience, and in the end I'm still not sure. Maybe that was the crew applauding.

Whoa Nelly. He must not be a very in-demand performer these days. You think they'd at least tell the host who he was.

The best part:

"And the kids absolutely adore it, I'm sure they're gonna love the music as well."

[awkward pause]

"They'd better."

"They'd better! Or else!"

"Exactly."

"Something dark could happen to them."

"Something dark will happen to them anyway."

"He he he, right, hey thanks so much for stopping by..."

What exactly was happening in that? It sounded like he was just plucking the ukelele while groaning...

Perhaps you are not familiar with the Magnetic Fields? Stephen Merritt is their lead singer and songwriter. Both Yoggoth and I are great fans of their album 69 Love Songs.

Wikipedia is never enough I see :)

Either Good Day Atlanta is the first morning news/current affairs program in the world with a studio audience or that was the crew/presenters clapping.

I guess Merritt would end up on a program because of the nation-wide success of the books, combined with the plethora of actual events to appear on in any given release weeks. It must be 'all hands on deck'.

Or in this case, all wounded hearts...

Maybe Stephin just isn't a morning type of guy.
