Slate/NYTimes Roundup

St. Louis City Museum

Fun articles from the webrags we love to hate:

A photocopy of the Gambino grand jury indictment - Greaseball, The Doctor, and One Eye are all great gangster names, but check out Steven Iaria aka Stevie I., John, Simon, Herman, and Alan. How do you keep track of a guy with 5 nondescript names?

Why don't we have more places like this St.Louis museum? The exhibits involve, "crawling up an open tube of steel mesh toward the fuselage of a Sabre 40 airliner, all part of the three-dimensional outdoor labyrinth the museum calls MonstroCity", "dropping one by one through a hole in a steel floor down a two-story slide", and "slithering through the Enchanted Caves, a seemingly endless warren of tunnels, nooks and crannies carved from concrete." Better still, the place stays open until 1AM on weekends. Forget bridges, that sounds like an infrastructure project everyone should get behind. Road trip to St.Louis anyone?

What about "Miserable," "Buckwheat," and "Tall Guy"?

As far as St. Louis goes, the closest I've been is probably Memphis, so yeah, let's do it. Just what do you imagine "an indescribable emporium called Beatnik Bob’s" is actually like (not to mention the three-ring circus)?

The article clearly states that it is a one ring circus LE. Good to see you around schrod.

What? Only a one-ring circus? Screw it, I'm not going.

I think I saw the trailer: isn't that the movie with the ultra-suave private school kid who gives people advice in the bathroom stall and Robert Downey Jr. is the authority figure or something? Yeah, another high school movie that is nothing like my actual high school experience. Sorry, you're gonna get all the Oscarbait movies first.

Anywhoosle, how's the employment world treating you Kari? After months of self-sufficiency, I've finally called up Office Team again. Finding a job on Craigslist is hard!

Oh ok. I thought you had mentioned a book or something that this movie was based on, but it does sound a bit like a rip off/redo of Ferris Beuller type characters. It will probably be funny, but I'll wait for the DVD download.

Worklife has been good to me. After the KGO project, I was contacted by one of my old associates and did a straight up contract deal (non-agency), which went perm for me on Jan 1 -- working in web development. It's freakin' crazy busy but I love it.

Hope you can network your way into something you enjoy. I enjoyed working with you, and wasn't at all pleased with the way that played out, but I didn't have a lot to say in the decision.

I don't think you need to go all the way to St. Louis, doesn't the Exploratorium have some crazy geodesic dome suspended from the ceiling with all sort of crazy slides in the pitch dark?

Little Earl said...

You mean the Tactile Dome? Yeah, that's cool I guess, but the Exploratorium is all in the name of "science" or some crap like that. This place in St. Louis just looks like it's in the name of wackiness.

I don't remember that at the Exploratorium but I haven't been in a few years.
