Is Henry Paulson President Now?
Where has Bush been? Did he call it quits after that discussion with Putin at the Olympics? Damn, I can't even watch sports and have a chat without someone criticizing me, I'm done with this President thing.
I'm reading all these stories saying that our situation is/is not similar to 1929 and in every one there's a picture of Hank wearing his blue suit, slightly hunched and reassuringly bald, exiting one shiny glass and marble building or another.
From the NYTimes, Sheryl Gay Stolberg writes:
"It was brief, two minutes. His brow was furrowed, and his words were careful: “The American people can be sure we will continue to act to strengthen and stabilize our financial markets and improve investor confidence.” Then, having imparted no specifics, he once again slipped out of sight."
He basically came out, pointed at Paulson, and said: He's got this one.
Bush met with John Kufuor, the president of Ghana, on Monday. “Your tenure has been full of events and challenges, some very mind-boggling and hair-raising,” Mr. Kufuor told Mr. Bush, raising more than a few eyebrows. “You are a survivor,” the Ghanaian leader told the American president. “And my hope is that history would prove kinder to you.”
You know you're a lame duck when even the President of Ghana feels sorry for you.

If you think W. has gone missing, then where the hell did Cheney go?? I haven't heard a peep out of him since 2007. Well, I guess there was something about him going to Georgia (the country) a few weeks back, but even then that was the first I'd heard of him in ages. Seriously, is he dead or something and they occasionaly bring out his body and prop it up a la Weekend at Bernie's?
Ah, yes Zrbo! I was going to write something about Cheney too but I got carried away quoting that wonderful Times article and forgot. Maybe his new bunker in Washington is so nice, he never wants to leave! Mine shaft gap indeed!
I have been missing our favorite dynamic duo as well. But apparently they've decided to call it quits and just let us decide who our next gigantic disappointment will be.
Oh Ninquelote, something tells me you just need another viewing of the South Park episode "Douche and Turd." From Wikipedia:
During a pep rally at the South Park Elementary School, a local PETA group protests the use of a cow as a mascot. The school agrees to pick a new mascot, and the students are told to vote for said new mascot. Embarrassed by the bland choices, the kids decide to fill in a joke candidate but disagree as to whether it should be a "giant douche" or a "turd sandwich." Kyle rallies his friends to fill in the giant douche, and Eric gathers support for the turd sandwich. Cartman wins Butters' support (by slanting the question when asking Butters which of the two choices was funnier). The result is the two joke candidates get the most votes and the students must choose between the two in an election.
Stan decides that he doesn't like either candidate, and declares that he won't vote at all, much to everyone's dismay. Stan is equally dismayed, wondering why anyone would care about such a pointless exercise. He talks about it with his parents at dinner, but his parents get into a fight over who should win when Stan explains who the two competitors are. This results in Kyle calling on Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs who intimidates Stan with a literal Vote or Die campaign.
It goes on.
I rest my case.
