Obama Wins!

I'm extremely happy about this news. Although I'd predicted this result, my gut didn't agree until today. As an early Obama supporter, and a meager donor to his campaign, I feel like something good has happened to a friend. That sounds silly, but in these days when we spend hours reading about, and surreptitiously traveling with the objects of Internet attention the people that we've never met can seem more familiar than those we pass on the street. But in another way, something good did happen to all of my friends--hope won, and the outlook for us all improved just a bit.

I am happy too, and I predicted it (and actually put my money on a 350+ electoral college vote win, so come on NC). But the way I found out wasn't so fun - Maddy called me at about 6am GMT (I stayed up late enough to see Pennsylvania declared for Obama, and concluded that was it (that's when it was what?)) and I woke to a start and talked to her for a few minutes while my entire body seemed to tingle with the shock of a loudly-announced, confusing, excited conversation.
Do you think in future we can wait until a bit later to call me?
Yes we can! (I plan a long future for "yes we can" jokes, be warned)

Well, I've been surprised twice in a row now. One was a bad surprise (2004) and the other was a good surprise (2008) - so I guess they sort of cancel each other out?

That being said, I too put my money on an Obama victory, but of 349 - which is exactly where the count stands now...without North Carolina! I am probably fucked but oh well (I guess I'd rather lose a bet than an election).

The first thing out of my mouth was "Thank god we don't have to hear about Sarah Palin anymore."

Seriously, good riddance. Have fun looking at Russia from your house.

Oh, I have the feeling this isn't the last we'll be hearing from Sarah Palin...

You know that scene at the end of the first Star Wars where they blow up the Death Star but Darth Vader still manages to escape in one of those little fighter planes?

It's kind of like that.

Now why'd you have to go scare me like that??

Ahem, will 2012 be 'The Empire Strikes Back'?

It is like that, except Palin is being sniped at by members of the ex-McCain-Palin campaign staff. There are some great videos: http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/243187.php for example.

What if Palin turns out to be Obama's mum?
