I was just talking to Little Earl about Carl "AC" Newman's new album, Get Guilty. Long story short, I like it. There was an old interview with Newman in which he claimed that he lacked talent, but made up for it with good taste. That explanation appeals to me, and relates back to my appreciation for the band XTC.
Then I read this new emusic.com interview with Newman:
"What are a couple of your all-time favorite movies, and do they ever influence the content of your lyrics? - Brian S.
I really love Rushmore. Probably my favorite movie."
In case you're new around here, or are old around here and didn't know it, Rushmore is one of my favorite movies. Thus it is proven, Carl Newman has good taste.
And it's one of my least favorite!
ReplyDeleteZrbo, don't you have anything better to do other than stabbing a dagger through Yoggoth's very soul?
ReplyDeleteHis other favorite movies are Animal House and Nights of Cabiria. Check and mate!
I also like this very practical answer:
"If you were to assemble a fantasy band for a one-off record or tour, who (currently performing, retired or dead) would you like to include in the line-up? - D. Stephenson
I would put myself in The Beatles."
Hey, why bother with assembling some crazy celebrity line-up that might have no chemistry at all when you've already got a line-up that you know works pretty well, and you can just add yourself?
Really? It's one of your least favorite? I'd figure that even if you didn't like the plot or protagonist you'd still enjoy Bill Murray? Don't tell me you dislike Bill Murray!

(I still haven't figured out how to create links in the comments section - any tips?)
Little Earl, I've told you before - you have to actually write in the html code to make a link in the comments. If you can't remember the code for that just make a new post and choose "show html" and then click the link button and copy and past what it puts down.

ReplyDeletePut the text that you want to be a link in between the ><. Put the URL in the quotes.
Wes Anderson Week At AV Club
ReplyDeleteNice advice!
ReplyDeleteI liked Rushmore, and I always enjoy a Bill Murry movie (even a bad one, aka Stripes). However I have a problem when people say they have one favorite movie of all time. It's like saying you have a favorite breath. There are too many to choose from.
ReplyDeleteI made an invisible link instead of showing you the code. Amusing. a href="http://" /a is the code and put carrots around the a's.
ReplyDeleteThat's poetic Ninquelote. But I remember this one breath I took back in '99. So full of oxygen, and perfectly lime scented...
Well, like LE said, we've done this before. Let's just say I haven't enjoyed Bill Murray in anything post Groundhog Day. I prefer the wacky early 80s Bill Murray, not the "i'm trying to be introspective" Murray.
ReplyDeleteI have no recollection of any prior conversation about Rushmore.
ReplyDeleteGuess we'll come back to this in a year or two Zrbo.
If you've got no recollection then read the link LE posted, cause it's got you and me talking about Rushmore! Hello? McFly!!
ReplyDeleteI know! I was making an extremely witty joke about how I'll forget and start hassling you about it again some time! McFly!
