Update: Shoe Attack Already Turned Into Videogame

Not 24 hours since the incident occured a game company has already gone ahead and made a flash game based off of this soon-to-be-infamous event. Play it here. No respect I tell ya', no respect!

Update: Check out these .gifs, I really like the Matrix and the Three Stooges one.

  1. You know, this whole shoe attack thing is funny and yet not funny. Did the guy feel like he was throwing a shoe at "George W. Bush" or at "The President of the United States of America"? Are they bothering to make a distinction? My question is: would the same guy feel like throwing a shoe at Obama?

  2. It is interesting how it's starting to be looked at as this expression of all the anger and resentment the Iraqis have been feeling since the war began. I'm not sure if it's aimed at Bush directly, or 'the President' as you say, or America as a whole, but I think it's representative of how the Iraqis feel at the moment. I could be looking a little too deep into this, but itt's almost reminiscent of when the two Olympic athletes took off their shoes and raised their fists at the '68 games.

Now I'm just waiting for those shoes to pop up on Ebay to see how much they're gonna go for.

  3. Yes, they must be the most famous shoes in the world. Aside from Judy Garland's red ruby slippers, of course.

Another thing is that Bush isn't exactly the president anymore. We're in sort of this presidential limbo, so someone throwing shoes at President Bush at this point is not quite the same as, say...someone throwing shoes at Obama.

Also, forgive me for my lack of shoe/political knowledge, but what happened at the '68 Olympics?

There's a statue/memorial at San Jose state (its one claim to fame). It's not really related to the issue at hand except that they both involved shoes and political statements.

  5. I don't care if it was four years ago or ten years from now, you don't throw a shoe (or anything else for that matter) at a President of the United States. There is no reason whatsoever that this guy would be throwing a shoe at George Bush the person. He's a dorky, likable guy. He was throwing a shoe at a President of our country and thus throwing a proverbial shoe at our country. We should all feel personally insulted.

Now if he had thrown the shoe at Obama, WWOD. He would have probably turned the other cheek or something. In all reality the guy would have probably been mobbed by the rest of the audience and beaten to a bloody pulp for daring to injure the messiah.

And don't even get me started on morons making political statements during sporting events. I think Yoggoth and I have gone a few rounds on this one.

  6. I've always loved that image of Smith and Carlos giving the Black Power salute. I think of it as commendable, given the terrible conditions for blacks in this country at the time, and the institutionalized violence that was turned against them. Hey White America, you want to ignore what's happening to us? Fuck you. A sentiment I can get behind!

As for the shoe - GW is a war criminal, a coward, and a bad person. Huzzah for that man. Absurdity can be a powerful tool in the fight against fascism.

  7. To the untrained eye one might have trouble seeing how yoggoth and I are actually good friends considering that we agree on almost nothing. It boggles the mind.
