Beatles the Videogame

Maybe this will convince Little Earl to partake of the dark art:

Beatles Version of Rock Band to Offer Unprecedented Gameplay

"A Beatles-branded interactive music game along the lines of Rock Band and Guitar Hero will give gamers and music lovers a chance to play songs from every stage of the Beatles' storied career, from the sweet simplicity of "Please, Please Me" to more sophisticated fare like the songs on Abbey Road.

Unlike previous editions of Rock Band, this one will exist as a "Beatles game" rather than as a branded version of Rock Band. The basic gameplay will be familiar to those who have played other versions of Rock Band, said Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos, but the Beatles' version represents "a unique opportunity for us to forge into new creative terrain in the music game genre and do things that have never been done."

  1. But I want a game where you can really BECOME on of the Beatles and you can lay lots of groupies and drop LSD and have boundless songwriting talent without even having to try.

I'm still wondering if they're going to remaster the catalog and release more outtakes a la all those "Deluxe Editions." This quote from an Apple exec is impressively vague:

The surviving members of the band and Apple Corps have been extremely protective regarding digital distribution of the Beatles' music. Much to the chagrin of the fans, Beatles songs are still not available on Apple’s iTunes, or other digital download services.

But Jeff Jones, chief executive of Apple Corps, offered a glimmer of hope to those fans Thursday, saying that the company was “working out the details.”

    Nice.

  2. Too bad it's not just extra songs to download for Rock Band. I don't really want to have to buy a whole new game, though I might if the Rock Band instruments are compatible with it. But this isn't even slated for release till Xmas '09.

  3. Isn't a lot of that Beatles-non-availibility-on-iTunes stuff to do with the Apple v. Apple lawsuits etc?
